Setup. Two spies led by a tough boss are demanding a toll from everyone who passes the Lamplit Market Square.
Terrain
- Market stalls: stalls give half cover and can be knocked over to create Difficult Terrain.
- Narrow alley: the alley is only 5 feet wide; only one Medium creature can fight abreast.
Tactics. They use cover, focus spellcasters, and try to take prisoners for ransom.
Twist. The creatures are illusions masking a single real threat among them.
Adjust on the fly
- Easier: Remove one spy (−200 XP).
- Harder: Add one more spy (1,700 XP total, beyond the High budget: dangerous for a tired party).
